KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) has contributed over RM2.43 million to mosques and surau in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan for the coming fasting month.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, said over RM1.44 million was given as Ihya' Ramadan aid and RM991,000 to beautify mosques and surau in the three territories.
"There are 69 mosques, 77 surau for Friday prayers and 415 other surau in the Federal Territories," he told reporters after the presentation ceremony and launching of the national-level Ihya' Ramadan 2011 programme at the Al-Muqarrabin Mosque in Bandar Tasek Selatan, here, Monday.
Also present were Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin and MAIWP chief executive Dr Muhammad Yamin Ismail.
Jamil Khir, who is also MAIWP chairman, said through the Ihya' Ramadan programme, each mosque received RM5,000, Friday prayer surau RM3,500 and surau RM2,000 while for beautification, each mosque was given RM5,000, Friday prayer surau RM3,000 and surau, RM1,000.
At the same function, Raja Nong Chik announced that his ministry would also be contributing RM353,500 for the Ihya' Ramadan programme, whereby each mosque would receive RM1,000, Friday prayer surau RM1,000 and surau, RM500
